Rudy was scheduled to arrive mid-morning at the hotel. But as with everything else in our adoption process, there was a glitch and after waiting for him, with our translator, she made a few calls and found that they'd be arriving late afternoon instead. So Paul and I went off to explore Antigua on our own.
Rudy finally arrived, we hung out around the hotel for a while before venturing out for dinner. Rudy cried for a little while after his foster mother, Cruz, left, fortunately she was very good about saying a quick good-bye and leaving. This video shows his personality starting to come out just a little while after Cruz left. Paty way through you'll see Rudy start pointing and it looks like he's yelling. He sees and hears a bird on the lawn and is pointing to it, saying it's name and making sounds at it.
Then we went to dinner and walked around town. You'll notice how Rudy is bundled up, even though it was June. This is a cultural thing in Guatemala. Shorts are rarely worn and people, especially children, are always dressed very warmly in long sleeves and long pants and layers of clothes. You'll also notice it's one of the last times he's dressed this way in the pictures. It just didn't feel right to bundle him up if we weren't bundled up.
Oh, that scene looks so familiar. That was the volcano that delayed our first trip into Guatemala. It kept rumbling when we were there, and the locals thought it was no big deal. :) How fun to see these "flashbacks" and see how far Rudy has come/grown!
