Rudyisms
~ You know, helicopter and Winnie-the-Pooh have bad words in them - hell and pooh!
~ We were bouncing basketballs in the street and his went rolling into our neighbor's driveway. He said, "Oh no. I'm in their private area!"
The Many Disguises of Rudy J.
I've been lucky to have had a few weeks off with Rudy this month. So instead of always running around, we've had a lot of lazy days, which leads to a very creative kid.
On Monday, Rudy woke up and put his spiderman costume on. When it was time to get dressed to go out for the day, he wanted to just put his clothes over the costume. After much negotiation, it was decided he could, if he took of his pajamas that were under the costume first. As he ran around the neihborhood before going out, he wore my sneakers (which he could run surprisingly well in).
On Tuesday, Batman spent the day with us. Once again he put my shoes on (my boots because they were all black, which he needed for the costume) while we were at home. For part of the day, he also had another Batman costum with this one that had the mask and cape.
Batman's ice cream choice was a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup blizzard.

And sometimes he is disguised as a kid. Here he deomonstrates the skills he learned in Kindergarten - who says school is all about work?

Using the zip line. He still can't reach it by himself, but he can hold on and fly both ways without letting go.

First Boardwalk Day
Last Friday we were all off and decided it would be a good day for our first trip to the boardwalk rides. We didn't count on the day being quite as hot as it was, so we didn't stay for very long- plus a thunderstorm was heading in- but we enjoyed the time we were there.
Our friend, Paige, spent the day with us, too. Before going to the boardwalk, she and Rudy hung out at the table- Paige colored and Rudy built with legos. Rudy loves having Paige around.

Paige is as much as of a daredevil as Rudy is, so they went on pretty much every ride together. The buccaneer...
Then we attempted the log flume. We haven't been on this ride but I thought Rudy would really enjoy it. Paul decided to watch, so Paige, Rudy and I headed on.
Rudy was concerned when we got in about why we weren't strapped in. I should have known then it might not go well. Getting on the log flume is tricky since it continues moving, so I had the two of them get in first and then jumped on myself. Therefore, I was in front and they were together in the back. I think this also made Rudy uncomfortable.
By the time we were heading straight up, he was not happy and wanted to get off.
So on the way down, I am reaching back trying to hold him around the seat as best I can. As much as I don't really like roller coasters, I've always liked the log flume, but I don't think I will be able to convince Rudy to go back on it for a long time!

...and the caterpillar roller coaster (which, once Paul got one, he realized he probably didn't need to be on it with them - but it was too late . I think he enjoys it and just wanted an excuse to ride it!)

Outnumbered
On Saturday we had a visit from a few extra kids - just enough for Paul and I to be unable to have a one-to-one ratio! We filled up the pool, fired up the grill, and chilled outside for the afternoon/ evening.
Charlie hamming it up. He was very concerned when the food came out but wasn't able to eat right away. He decided sitting in the chair and keeping an eye on Paul while he grilled was a good idea.
These two got along really well. They are almost the same person. They like to play the same way (very imaginatively), they are both very energetic, and they find humor in the same things. other than little sibling-like spats, they spent a great 24 hours together.
Charlie was willing to roll with whatever the two big kids were doing.
Three wet kids = time for a picnic! It made dinner so much easier.
Rudy told us he didn't mind so much having a 'baby' around as long as s/he was around Charlie's age. This is real progress!
What better dessert outside than ice cream?
And after ice cream - bath time and then bed.
The next morning, Charlie really enjoyed Rudy's geo-trax that he had set up a few days ago.
We met Bill, Renee, and Paige at a playground to pass the kids off to them. They were then going to meet Chris & Patti later. But first we had some playground fun.

The littlest cousins together.
It was very hot on the playground so we quickly got out a blanket and some water and grapes and relaxed.
The four youngest cousins (Max was at a Phillies game with Chris & Patti). Two seconds before this picture Rudy refused to cooperate. When he was given an ultimatum, suddenly he was able to smile beautifully for the picture.

Father's Day
For Father's Day, Paul decided he wanted to go to Cape May. We wanted to check out some places we hadn't been to before. We started at the Nature Center where there was a small garden to walk through, a Laboratory with a touch tank, and a few balconies we could look out over the water.
After that, we went to Cape May Point State Park.
We walked on the red trail, which started out through cedar trees.
Our first nature encounter - a snake. I don't think we would've seen it if it weren't for the people that were standing there taking a picture as we approached.

Next sighting - a frog- again pointed out by other people.
Then we saw a bunny (not anything very unusual since we frequently see them in our backyard).
Someone was a little energetic- very impressive considering he was up almost 3 hours past his bedtime last night and only slept in 15 minutes later than usual.
A swan - we saw many of these- mostly from pretty far away, but they looked huge even from far away.

Our trail went along side the beach so we detoured on the sand for a while. This is Rudy post-somersault.
After the trail we headed to the mall area for dinner.
Th Ugly Mug Fries- with white sauce and crab- we didn't leave any.
Someone has recently discovered he loves crab meat. A good and bad for us since now we have to share things like this with him!
After dinner we did a little shopping - we'd been looking for a visor for Rudy ( he complains that caps are too hot) and found this one that fit him perfectly. We also found a book store (seems like they are rarer all the time). None of us can resist a book store so we wandered in. Rudy has recently been getting an allowance and we have been trying to make him understand money and costs more. Last night at the baseball game he saw things he wanted to buy and I told him he could if h wanted to use his money. He quickly decided he didn't want to. Today in the book store he found a Sta Wars book he wanted. Again I told him he could if he used his money. His immediate response: "Sure, it's just money." I love that he didn't want to spend it on toys but didn't flinch at spending it on a book!
Last, we had ice cream (mmm Ben & Jerry's), and while Paul and I finished ours, Rudy found a place to perch and read.
All the excitement from last night and tonight caught up with Rudy, because about 15 minutes into our ride home, he was fast asleep. (of course now, at 9:30 p.m. he is still upstairs, wide awake, sneaking toys - it's going to be a long week!).
