Rudyisms

*Recently Rudy offered to tell us the five things he likes about school:
  • my teacher
  • specials
  • seeing my friends at recess
  • when my teacher reads a book
  • math tests

*Paul was talking at dinner about the fact that he had hired a new employee but she had to go through training first. Rudy asked what training was for Paul's job, "Do you have a cardboard wheelchair and a person in it and the person has to take them around for a few days?" Paul and I cracked up, and also thought that it might be a good training idea! (If you don't know, Paul works with people with developmental and intellectual disabilities- most are not in wheelchairs, but some are.)

*Rudy informed me the other day that when he has kids, he's not making them go to school until they are in fifth grade. I told him that by law he either had to send them to school or teach them at home. Rudy told me he would teach them at home with this schedule: one hour to do whatever they want, then two hours for Rudy to teach them. This would continue "until my husband gets home."

Rudy playing basketball outside with a Finn hat (from Adventure Time), Indiana Jones whip wrapped around him, wearing one black glove. I'm sure our neighbors think we're crazy.

Rudy came to church from Church School one week with this paper. When I asked him what it was he said he they had to draw someone getting baptised. He drew a monster getting baptised. Thank goodness all the teachers are very opne-minded!

Labor Day Weekend

Although I wouldn't call our weekend "relaxing", we did get to spend most of our time at home. And we certainly LABORED.

Saturday morning's excitement started when we went to the farm to pick up our veggies. My dad came with us to pick up some extra veggies and stop at a farm stand on the way home. As we were leaving the farm stand, we noticed that the front tire on Dad's car was flat. Paul changed it only to discover that the donut was flat, too. Thankfully the owners of the farm stand had an air compressor for us to use that we could fill the donut up to drive it to the garage. Later we once again tackled our toilet with another project designed to stop the running sound (which may have worked, we'll have to wait to see how long it lasts!). By the time we sweated through that, we didn't have energy for much more, so we had our first official Family Movie Night.

Sunday we had thought about going to the beach, or to the arboretum, depending on the weather, but we decided instead to stay home and do some work in the yard. We knew yard waste pick up was coming up this week, so we worked hard to get bags and bags of branches trimmed and put out front. After spending several hours in the yard, Paul then helped our neighbor move his basketball court from his backyard to the front of our house. His kids are in college and he was planning to get rid of it, but after he saw Rudy playing basketball out front this week, he offered it to us. It has been a big hit with Rudy. Check out his moves!

Because Rudy was so patient while we did yard work for most of the day, we walked to Dairy Queen after dinner.
Monday ended up being a lazy, rainy day. We did some cleaning and then lazed around for the rest of the day. It wasn't the most fun weekend we've had, but it was very productive.

Bad Blogger

I can't believe it's been a week since I've written anything. Time just seems to pass so quickly and I feel like I don't have time to do anything. So, here are a few random pictures of the last two weekends.
After my brief post that included birthday pictures, Reba asked for more information about my birthday. Every year my birthday falls right in the middle of Paul's basketball season (he coaches a team for Special Olympics), so we don't usually do much. Plus, I am not one for big celebrations (for myself) so I am just as happy that way. As a kid, I never minded sharing birthday celebrations with my brother, whose birthday was 2 weeks before mine. Anyway, I took the day off of my birthday, but had to work at night. Rudy and Paul made me a cake on the day before and we actually haven't done anything else. Reba also asked about gifts - another thing Paul and I don't do very big. But he did get me a microwave popcorn popper and a book about blogging called "Say Everything". However, we did get together with my family to celebrate all the March birthdays (me, my brother, and my nephew).

Here are the goofy boys waiting for singing so they can dig into the cupcakes.

And the beautiful princess- still a big ham when the camera comes out.

Then this weekend we went to Wildwood to watch Paul's team compete in the basketball finals in Wildwood, NJ.
Being a ham in pictures definitely runs in the family. I you can't see Rudy's pose in the first picture, look at the second. All I did was ask him to stand by the beach ball so I could take his picture.

I have some other random pictures around I need to post, I just haven't been motivated enough lately. If nothing else, over Spring break next week I will have time.
