A Meeting and Santa

On Thursday, Rudy came home from school and carried his desk chair downstairs. When I asked what he was doing, he told me he was setting up for a meeting and needed more seats. I confirmed that the desk was not coming downstairs, too, and then left him to his plans. A little while later, all his friends from upstairs has been brought down and set around the table. I asked about the meeting and was told I could be a part of it. We all sat down and Rudy started out with, "I know you are all very good detectives..." and I started to laugh. He had been trying to find a Lego vehicle he made a few days at a Lego build at Boscov's and we hadn't been able to locate it. As he started his meeting I asked, "Is this about the Legos?" and he confirmed it was. He then proceeded to take Paddington bear and Gato (his black cat) upstairs with him to search because Paddington "is dressed like a detective and Gato is black and can spray black spray if someone is trying to spy on us." Unfortunately, no one has been able to locate the missing Legos,  but he gave it a good try.

Today we went to breakfast with Santa at a local restaurant. Here's our handsome boy waiting for breakfast...

(here Paul was teasing him because two girls, about 10 or 11 walked by and he said Rudy gave them a little smile- the flirting begins!)

I don't remember what he wanted that we wouldn't let him do, but the pouting lip came out- didn't work.

Food! Yes, this is supposed to be breakfast, but it could have been dessert! Chocolate chip pancakes with rainbow sprinkles and whipped cream. And, of course, some sausage.

A little full and lazy- he ate about half of the pancakes and all but about 2 bites of the sausage.

Then we went to see Santa. Rudy was pretty reserved with Santa. He said he didn't know what he wanted when asked (he later told us he knew he wanted Legos, but didn't know what kind and felt sure Santa was going to ask for more specific information). He also pointed out right from the start that this is just one of Santa's helpers, since he could see the strings for his beard. He has always been very understanding of the fact that Santa can't do all these visits by himself and always has helpers.

A New Friend

Paul's friend, Paul, has been in town visiting from Hawaii. We were able to spend a few different days with Paul and he and Rudy really hit it off. I've never heard Rudy have such conversations with anyone else. He would talk to Paul about his Halloween candy and ask him what his favorite candy was. Or he would ask questions about whether he had any kids and why or why not. It was fun to see.

Circumstances being the way they are, this was the first time Paul has met Rudy and the affection was mutual. For most of the time Paul was visiting Rudy would say something about Paul and then clarify, not Poppy, his friend, Paul.

I'm not sure how much more we'll see Paul on this visit, maybe someday we can visit him in Hawaii. But until then, at least we have a few pictures to remember Rudy's new friend.
