The Very Hungry Caterpillar

In the fall, we attended a class on caring for monarch caterpillars. We got 3 milkweed plants to take home. In the spring, Paul planted the milkweed next to our back room. One day, we noticed something was crawling on it- a caterpillar. Then a few days later we noticed another caterpillar on a different plant. For several days we watched these caterpillars eat and eat and eat. It was amazing to watch.
Then one day, they were gone. I researched and found that they don't form their chrysalis on the milkweed, but somewhere nearby. So, we looked around the bushes and trees nearby, but we never found them. Hopefully, they found a safe place and turned into butterflies. We haven't seen any monarchs flying around, but now we hopefully wait for more caterpillars. This time, we might capture them and bring them inside before they transform.

Moonie was very curious.

The caterpillar ate the entire top of the plant in just a few days.
