Batsto Village Hike

Sunday was a beautiful day, but not quite beach weather, so we headed out to Batsto to try out a trail we hadn't been on that went around the lake.

After much whining and complaining before we left the house related to the fact that we were horrible parents who never let him pick out anything to do and we always drag him on hikes that he hates, Rudy ran ahead and went down to the water as much as he could and generally had a good time (although he would never admit it).

Rudy's latest interest is the show Finding Bigfoot. So the whole time we walked, he talked about the pros and cons of the woods and whether Bigfoot might live there. Then he found these tracks. (Or rather, Paul 'found' them and then pointed them out and Rudy then saw them everywhere.)

The second part of the trail went away from the water and wasn't as scenic (and by that point someone was hungry and grumpy), but we made it to the picnic benches at the end and good humor was restored (until the next hike we drag him on!).

Catching Up

We've been having trouble with our computer, so I haven't been getting pictures off the camera. The computer decided to start cooperating the other day, so I took advantage of to get pictures from the camera and now create one post for the last month.

In January a local bookstore had a Lego creation contest for kids. This is what Rudy came up with- Monster Factory. The Lego people go in as regular people and come out as monsters.

Once again we went out for a walk at the wildlife refuge in the cold.

And another day we went to walk a trail at Batsto and saw some cool sites. Snow and ice around a tree.

There was a layer of ice around all the water, which Rudy wanted to see how far he could go on it and we kept calling him back.

Charlie stayed with us for about a week while Chris and Patti went away. He brought some costumes with him that Noel enjoyed using.

March brought Read Across America week and Wacky Wednesday.

Rudy had another class at the Arden and we were lucky that it was one of the few, warmer, sunny days we've had this winter.

Noel brought chap stick with him that he felt the need to apply continuously all over his mouth. And then point out to everyone we walked past that he had his own chap stick.

Rudy's class at the Arden was a Scavenger Hunt. So they just told us about they did and where they found clues.

And for my birthday, we went to Bass River and had a little picnic and took a short walk.

Halloween Part 1

This weekend we started our Halloween celebrations. Saturday we (I) carved the pumpkin. It was not fun doing one of these sheets, instead of just making shapes, but it looks pretty cool.

Sunday we went to Halloween at Batsto Village.

There were lots of games to play.

Yes, two snakes. N went back and forth between a spider and a snake, but once he saw Rudy's snake he was sold on it.

After Batsto we went home for some costume changes and headed to Smithville for our second Zombie Walk. This time Rudy wanted to participate and our friends Will, Nathan, and Jared joined us. This is the picture before they got their makeup done.

After getting makeup applied, we quickly grabbed some pizza.

After the walk there was a raffle for anyone who participated in the walk. For about 20 minutes or so, names were called out and prizes distributed. The boys had front and center standing and sitting room. Rudy won a target poster for shooting zombies and Jared won a drink cozy that says NJ Zombie Task Force. The boys had so much fun; I think this will be an annual event.
