Greenbriar State Park Camping

Friday Rudy and I left for our camping trip in Greenbriar State Park in MD. On the way, after our stop for lunch, we checked out a geocache that wasn't too far away. It was in this old phone booth.

We arrived at the campground by mid-afternoon and set up the tent. None of our friends had arrived yet so Rudy wanted to check out the beach. It was a beautiful area. He swam for about half an hour and then we headed back to the campsite.

As we drove back, we found this snake crossing the road right in front of our campsite. We had to stop the car to get out and look at it.

Rudy tried to follow it into the woods (and I think he tried to touch its tail.) We saw the same snake (or same species of it) Sunday morning crossing the road the same way.

Dinner was on your own and we all just hung out for a while. I love how it takes no time at all for these kids to fall back into their friendship.

After everyone ate, around 6:30/7 we headed back to the beach. Our crazy kids swam until we pulled them out of the water around 8:15.

We got back to the campsites, changed and had many varieties of s'mores. It was a very late night.
The next morning after breakfast, we headed back to the beach. The four oldest kids were pretty much in the water from when we arrived (around 10/10:30) until we pulled them out around 4:30. The nice part was they barely came out to ask us for anything, so the adults had lots of time to sit and chat and relax.

A church group had been at the lake doing baptisms and a little while later we saw Rudy, Lily, and Lily taking turns baptizing (or dunking) each other.

When we were at the beach Friday night, Rudy kept asking me about renting a boat. So we checked it out on Saturday and Rudy, Lily, Lily, and I rented a paddle boat. Each of the kids had a turn to paddle (with me). Here we are heading off...

Here we go...

After the beach we went back to camp, showered and changed and prepared dinner.

Just after we finished dinner it rained a little. So we set up a tarp and just sat around and talked and played until it passed. It was an early night for everyone.

The next morning we had breakfast and relaxed until we had to start breaking down the campsites.
Lily and Charlotte helped me with the tent, while Rudy entertained Ashton by pulling him up and down the road in his wagon.

He then took a break after all that hard work.

And then it was time for the usual end of camping pictures. Ashton didn't want anything to do with them (although he was dragged into his family picture).
