National Night Out

Tuesday was National Night Out. As soon as we got to the park, Rudy spotted friends and was off- we checked in with him regularly but he was happier to be running around with his friends or doing his own thing.

N stayed with us (he had no choice) and was happy to see the helicopter (while wearing his firefighter hat and bracelet and carrying his ball).

Then we checked out a fire engine. When I put N in the driver's seat, he immediately looked for the seat belt, so he got strapped in.

I was a little worried because he kept touching and trying to move all the levers and buttons, but they must have been locked down good because when he slipped past me and tried a few, nothing happened!

A rare visit with Rudy- he went with a friend to get his face painted and got this "because that's what L got and he told me to get it too". The funny thing is, I think it's what he would've picked on his own!

Rudy watching the fire service helicopter prepare to make a drop. After making a drop, the helicopter landed for a while. When it took off, N watched it and waved and actually ran part way in the park following it as it left.

First Day of School and a Surprise

Rudy has been so excited to start PreK. Today, the first day of school, he was awake and picking out his clothes immediately. I reminded him he had to wear his uniform (he's in a Catholic school - he loves the viking on it), and he happily got dressed. Breakfast usually consists of at least two courses but today he ate just one pumpkin muffin and was ready to go. From the time he woke up, he was completely ready to go in twenty minutes!

Happy PreK kid. Of course, he is already in love with his teacher. She is a first year teacher, pretty with long hair - Rudy's weakness when it comes to women!

The first week of school is half days so Dad and I picked Rudy up and we went to Friendly's for lunch. Dad told Rudy he will take him out to lunch every year for his first day of school.

After lunch, we ran to the library. We were only inside for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a helicopter sitting in the field across the parking lot. The propellers were spinning, so we went over to look.

It seemed like it had landed to pick someone up (maybe a joy ride because it definitely wasn't an emergency of any kind. We watched the pilot get back in the helicopter. He waved at us...

... and then the helicopter took off.

It flew right over our heads and sped off into the sky. It was very cool to see.

So it was a successful first day of school - Rudy had a lot to tell us, and he seems excited to go back tomorrow. What more could we ask for?
