Rudy had his first swim lesson today. He's been talking about it since last night when we told him what we were doing. The funny thing is, when we visited him the first two times he loved being in the pool. But in June when we were in Antigua he hated the pool. Now granted, the pool was not heated and the water was freezing, but he wanted nothing to do with it. Then in October, he didn't like the bath tub or the pool. He got over the bath tub within a few days but the whole time we were in Guatemala, if we even went near the pool, he cried. Especially if we tried to take his shoes off near the pool. However, he has become quite the adventurer in the tub - he puts his face in the water, he splashes, he lies down - so we figured he was ready for swim lessons.
He had absolutely no hesitation today. He loved going in the pool and loved watching everyone else in the pool. He even commented on the other "ninos crying" - as if to say WHY are they crying?!
By the end of the lesson, the teacher put a flotation belt on him, gave him a noodle to hold onto and said as soon as he starts kicking his feet, he'll be swimming. I think we're going to be planning for the 2024 Olympics.
Max is starting lessons this month too...watch out OBX...we are going to have two fish in the pool :)
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! Maria will take real lessons this summer (last summer she was just with me in the pool for "baby" classes). I don't know that she will adapt as quickly. I never know with her. It looks like Rudy might be a professional already!
