Summer, Week 10

The last full week of summer. Rudy and Niko spent the week at Sports Camp where they played and learned a variety of sports each day. It happened to be our hottest week this summer (which isn't saying much, because as summers go it was pretty mild), so they came home hot and tired and sweaty every day, but they had a lot of fun.

Estell Manor

Sunday was a nice, sunny day, but not quite beach weather. So we headed out for a hike at Estell Manor.

The beginning, when the kids were actually walking with us.

Trying to catch up to the boys.

Niko torn between following Rudy and keeping track of us.

And they are off.

We hiked over to the playground and spent a lot of time there. Jada found a bug that she was fascinated with, and eventually got brave enough to pick it up.

After the playground we walked a little more to an area by the water. There used to be a bridge here.

Nikoisms

We are heading to a playground and there is a group under a pavilion having a party. Rudy and Niko have the following conversation.
Rudy: I think it's a family group because they are all the same color.
Niko: Maybe it's only for black people because they are all black.
Rudy: You can go, then, because you're black.
Niko: I'm not black, I'm brown!

Rudyisms

Paige was visiting and as we drove by his school, Rudy said, "That's my school. That's where I go to get an education."

(Rudy thwarted by his little "sister")
Rudy to Jada: How big do hippos get?
Jada: Bigger and bigger and bigger!
Rudy: No. Do they get to be 2 feet, 4 feet, or 17 feet?
Jada: Big!!!

Jadaisms

After the kids are finished dinner, they ask to be excused and then clear their plates. The first few weeks they were here, when Jada was finished she would say, "Can I please get away from the table."

We are at a playground. Paul and I are sitting at a bench while the kids play. Jada runs over to us, gives Paul a hug and says, "Hi, Daddy." We ask her what's going on and her response is, "I'm being good." Guilty conscience, maybe?

Summer, Week 9

Monday- The boys were content to spend the day at home. Running from Legos, to video games to riding bikes and scooters outside.

Tuesday- I worked, and the boys spent the day at PALS.

Wednesday- Same as Monday. I offered them the chance to go swimming at a friend's pool, but neither was interested. (It hasn't been hot, lately.)

Thursday- I worked, and the boys spent the day at PALS.

Friday- Niko had to get bloodwork. We enrolled Jada in a new preschool.

Farmer's Market and Pool Party

Saturday morning Paul's folk group was playing at the Brigantine Farmer's Market again, so we headed out to listen.
After the first set, the kids and I explored some.
Niko and Jada insisted they had to be photographed on this inflated shark.

Rudy and Niko spent a lot of time hanging out in the tree.

After the market, we headed home to get ready for the annual pool party at Renee's aunt's house.
Rudy, as usual, was a fish the entire time. He barely came out to eat.

Niko, with float vest, and noodle, enjoyed swimming around the shallow end and in the hot tub.

The birthday girl is really a big fish, too.

Jada in too-big goggles, with vest, and noodle loved it, too.

Rudy jumping and twisting.

The girls. Every since I showed Jada pictures of Paige about two weeks ago, all she talked about was how much she loves Paige and when can she meet her. Despite Paige's odd smile, she really wasn't under duress in these pictures! She and Jada had fun together.

And as always, the pool party is around Paige's birthday, so this year's theme was Frozen.

Our crew with their desserts.
